Automechanika 2026

Meet us at Automechanika 2026, the world's leading automotive service industry trade fair, and discover Solstice® YF (R-1234yf) retrofit concept for the future of refrigerants in automotive industry.

Messe Frankfurt, Frankfurt, Germany

Sep 08 - Sep 12, 2026 / 9:00am-6:00pm & 09:00am-05:00pm

Meet us at Automechanika for the launch of Solstice's direct-to-yf (DTYF) retrofit concept for the automotive industry.

Why R-1234yf, Why Now

As the global phase down of R-134a accelerates under the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, which has been ratified by 171 nations including the United States, European Union, and China, vehicle owners and service providers will increasingly require a reliable retrofit solution for existing R-134a air conditioning systems.

Solstice® YF (R-1234yf) is widely recognized as the leading replacement option, offering a practical and future-ready path forward as R-134a availability declines around the world.

Proven, OEM-Backed Compatibility

R-1234yf is the only refrigerant that is already in widespread use and fully approved for automotive applications. It has been developed, tested, and validated by every major automotive OEM selling vehicles in the European Union, ensuring proven compatibility, performance, and regulatory acceptance.

In addition, a comprehensive service ecosystem is already established, including refrigerant recovery, recycling, and recharge (RRR) equipment, trained technicians, and an extensive service infrastructure that supports adoption on a global scale.

As regulatory requirements continue to drive the transition away from R-134a, R-1234yf offers a proven, OEM-backed, and safety-tested retrofit solution for older vehicles. Its established track record, global service infrastructure, and demonstrated compatibility with R-134a-based systems make it the most practical option for maintaining air conditioning performance while supporting long-term environmental and regulatory compliance.

Featured Session

Join us for “A Simple Guide to Repair and Retrofit Older R-134a Cars with 1234yf”, an insightful session exploring a practical and cost-effective approach to servicing aging R-134a vehicle air conditioning systems. The retrofit solution has been independently tested and assessed by TÜV Hessen, which subsequently issued a technical report documenting its performance on a passenger vehicle. With more than 350 million R-134a vehicles still operating worldwide, including over 125 million in Europe, this presentation will demonstrate how workshops can use existing A/C service equipment to implement a straightforward retrofit process using R-1234yf refrigerant and support the industry's transition to lower-emission solutions.

The session will be presented by MaryJo "MJ" VandenBrink, Senior Business Development Manager at Solstice Advanced Materials and Vice Chairman of MACS. With nearly 30 years of experience in automotive HVAC and leadership, her active involvement in MACS and SAE technical committees gives her a front-row perspective on the technologies, standards, and service practices shaping the future of automotive air conditioning.
